Are you overweight?

Check our chart below which is based on the Body Mass Index calculation, to find out whether you are overweight. Your bone structure may influence the reading, but it is a good general guide as to what your weight should ideally be.

Another quick and simple test is to measure your waist (see below). This measurement will give a good indication as to whether you are overweight and possibly at risk of health problems. Measure your waist at its narrowest point and in a relaxed state (don't hold your breath!).

Women
Waist circumference 32 ins (81cm) or below is classified as healthy
Waist circumference between 33-35 ins (84cm-89cm) indicates a possible health risk
Waist circumference over 35 ins (89cm) indicates obesity - and a real health risk

Men
Waist circumference 36 ins (91 cm) or below is classified as healthy
Waist circumference between 37-40 ins (94cm-102cm) indicates a possible health risk
Waist circumference over 40 ins (102cm) indicates obesity - and a real health risk
